Carl English is officially hanging up his jersey, and retiring from basketball.
In a statement this afternoon, English indicates that after reaching an agreement with the St. John’s Edge, he will enter retirement on February 23.
Born in St. John’s, he says his career has taken him “full circle,” returning home to play for the St. John’s Edge. In his first year with the Edge, English was named MVP and ‘Canadian of the Year’ for the NBL of Canada.
I never thought this day would come, amazing journey with lots of ups and downs, my career has taken a full circle back to my home. I am honoured & blessed to share this moment with family, friends & fans! I would ❤️ for you to join me on Feb 23rd for the retirement ceremony pic.twitter.com/cwFjxfRWTM

It’s unclear if he will still have a role with the team moving forward, and he says they will look at possible involvement over time—but for now, he wishes them a winning season.
St. John’s Edge will celebrate English’s career on the 23rd, to mark his retirement, and raise his jersey—#23.
