A young man from Natuashish is dead following an incident while in custody at the Labrador Correctional Centre.
According to a statement from the RCMP, officers were called in after the 22-year-old man was found alone and unresponsive in his cell late Thursday afternoon. He was then brought to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Happy Valley-Goose Bay RCMP are investigating the matter.

It’s the latest incident that resulted in the death of an inmate while in custody at NL corrections centres.
In early November, 33-year-old Jonathan Henoche died following what was eventually deemed a homicide at Her Majesty’s Penitentiary. Lawyer Bob Buckingham called for a public inquiry into Henoche’s death.
A number of lawsuits have also been filed against the provincial government in relation to the deaths of four inmates in the province’s correctional system over a year-long period.
