A 17-year-old novice driver from Deer Lake is without his licence after they were stopped by police on the TCH Sunday afternoon.
At around 3:00 p.m. police were on the Trans-Canada east of Pasadena and noticed a vehicle passing traffic as a high rate of speed.
The RCMP says speeds as high as 157 km/h were captured on the radar.
The officer stopped the vehicle and issued a ticket for speeds more than 51 km/h above the posted limit, suspended the driver’s licence and impounded the vehicle.
Police are reminding drivers that aggressive speeds create reduced reaction times and place the driver—as well as others—at unnecessary risks.
