A young boy whose wish warmed the hearts of people across Atlantic Canada has passed away.
Leeland Hill of Nova Scotia was diagnosed with a terminal brain condition at an early age. The nine-year-old was granted a wish through the Children’s Wish Foundation to meet his great-grandmother in Newfoundland for the first time.
Leeland’s family drove from Nova Scotia to the Avalon Peninsula, even joining up with an RCMP escort as they made their way to Kelligrews to visit his great-grandmother and throw her a party at her retirement home.
At the time, Leeland’s family said they were overwhelmed by public outreach. His great-grandmother said they didn’t expect for there to be such a strong response.
While the family party was private, they threw another celebration in Bowring Park, bringing together dozens of dogs for a ‘Puppy Party’ to celebrate Leeland’s cross-island tour.
According to the Children’s Wish Foundation, Leeland passed away on February 8.
The Foundation and RCMP both offered condolences to his family and friends, saying his memory will live on through all the lives he touched.
