A culinary arts instructor at the College of the North Atlantic in Bay St. George is trying to break a record for the world’s largest Fish n’ Chips.
D’Arcy Butler is looking for a “monster” piece of fish, to beat a 63 pound, 4 oz piece of fish cooked in Brighton in the UK a few years ago that currently holds the world record.
Butler says while he’d love to find a cod fish that size, he suspects it’ll have to be halibut.

He believes cod makes a superior fish n’ chips, but he doesn’t think they’ll find a single piece of cod in that size range.
They have a tilt skillet that holds 150 litres, which is big enough to cook the fish with the help of the Port aux Basques campus. They will fashion a giant basket for the fish to deep fry it.
To qualify, you have to cook it as a single piece with double the weight of fries.
