A respected Innu elder and environmentalist wants to ensure the Gull Island hydro project is not developed saying Muskrat Falls has ruined the lives and land of her people.
Elizabeth Penashue says not only are fish affected by the methylmercury created by the hydro project, but the animals as well including the caribou, black bear, beaver and porcupine.
She says the people of Sheshashit hunt on the land regularly, and she wants to know how Muskrat Falls will affect future generations. She laments the end of a way of life for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and says she does not want to see the development of the Gull Island project.
Penashue says the women of Canada are strong and she’s calling on them to come together to ensure Gull Island is not developed.
