Schools in the metro region are closed today as snow makes for tricky conditions on roads.

Allison Sheppard at the Gander weather office says the snowfall started overnight just before 5:00 a.m. and is expected to continue through the day, with 15 cm of snow and snow pellets as well as blowing snow with 80 km/h winds in the afternoon before it’s all done.

She says the snow is ending around suppertime, but high winds will continue until around midnight, blowing the fresh snow around, so it won’t be ideal shoveling conditions until tomorrow morning.
Another snow system is coming in Thursday after, but Sheppard says at the moment that one isn’t at weather warning levels, sticking to around 5 cm.
