Commercial truckers are going to be paying more to ship goods to Newfoundland via the Gulf ferries.
Marine Atlantic has set its rate structure for 2020, and has left passenger fares and passenger vehicle fares untouched. That applies to both Port aux Basques and Argentia.
However, commercial rates are going up by two per cent as of April 1.

Commercial increase will be felt island-wide, mayor says
Port aux Basques Mayor John Spencer says that increase will touch every household in the province as 99 per cent of our meat, most of our vegetables, as well as propane, building supplies and most of our mail are shipped through Marine Atlantic.
The Crown corporation says a significant portion of year-round operating expenses are designed to meet the specific requirements of our commercial industry.
