Those who frequent Quidi Vidi Lake are mourning the loss of a long-time resident.
Gary the Goose has disappeared and is presumed dead.
When the news got out, bird lovers, rowers and others took to social media to remember the pondside denizen.
Shawn Fitzpatrick has photographed the Greylag since he first appeared at Quidi Vidi some years ago. According to Fitzpatrick, Gary was coaxed to the Virginia River and made his way down to Quidi Vidi after he was discovered on Logy Bay Road a few years ago.
Since then he happily took control, leading and keeping the other waterfowl at the lake in line.
