The RNC stated that the building was evacuated while officers attempted to make contact with a person inside. Memorial University asked the community to remain where they were.
Reports from the scene indicate close to a dozen RNC vehicles were parked outside the building.
MUN spokesman Dave Sorenson says based on information collected, they felt it necessary to contact the RNC.
While they felt the threat was low, out of “an abundance of caution,” they issued a notification to the campus community to shelter in place.
Shortly before 2:30 p.m., MUN sent out another campus-wide notification that the situation had been resolved, and all faculty, staff and students were able to return.
