The President of the provincial Liberal party says the shorter time frame on the leadership race is to be considerate of those putting their names on the ballot.
John Allan rolled out the details of the Liberal leadership on Monday.
The race will last just 76 days—in comparison to the five-month race back in 2013. He says those running are leaving their business and professional lives, and there has to be a balance. The party wants to be respectful of that.

Allan feels that they came up with a good balance with the timing. Once everybody is green lit, he says it’s a 28-day compaign with about two weeks for vetting and appeals.
Nominations close in 11 days, not leaving much time for those considering a run to get the $25,000 and 50 signatures needed.
Allan believes there was adequate time, as the Premier announced his resignation just over a week ago.
He indicates that anyone seriously considering putting their name forward has had the past week to start pulling things together and getting organized.
Allan claims there are about five or six people interested.
The Liberal leadership convention will take place from May 8-9 at the St. John’s Convention Centre.
