Key players tasked with responding to ice water distress calls joined forces in Conception Bay South this morning to carry out a rescue simulation.
An all-terrain vehicle and rider were submerged in the icy cold waters at Worsley Park this morning in an effort to raise awareness about the dangers of venturing out on frozen waterways.
The staged event also helps sharpen the response and coordination of those who are tasked with carrying out rescue operations.
Rovers Ground Search and Rescue member Jack Hickey submerged himself in the frigid waters for a short time while members of the CBS Fire department demonstrated two different ways to get him out of the water.
The training exercise was coordinated through the town of CBS and held at an easily accessible location.
As Paul French with the Rovers Ground Search and Rescue Unit points out, it isn’t always so easy to reach someone who needs help.
