A local union leader and philanthropist has passed away. Patrick McCormick passed away on Tuesday, he was 72.
McCormick’s career spanned over four decades where he was involved in a number of different unions. Most recently he was the President of the Newfoundland & Labrador Building and Construction Trades Council from 2009 to 2017.
Speaking on VOCM Open Line with Paddy Daly, McCormick’s friend Doug Moores says the fallen leader served members well in all of his roles.
“He was a quiet man but he had a great presence, and “when Paddy McCormick spoke, everybody listened.”
Moores emphasizes McCormick’s charitable work. During his time as President of the Building Trades Council he donated over $15-million in union funds to charity.
McCormick is resting at Caul’s Funeral Home. The funeral will take place on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Corpus Christi Church. He will be laid to rest on Sunday in Bristol’s Hope.
