If you’re looking for an early Paddy’s Day celebration, The Rooms might be the place you’re looking for, especially if you’re into the Irish heritage part of the holiday.
The Come Home Café is a “celebration of the life, culture and history” of rural life in the province – and this one is all about Tilting.
Tilting’s history is steeped in Irish heritage, and a member of the Tilting Expatriates Association, Winnie Hamilton says the event will have people from Tilting playing music, telling stories and sharing memories.
Just had a great meeting with the Tilting Expatriates Association @TheRooms_NL about our music & stories event next Friday, March 6th. It is going to be a blast (and you are encouraged to wear green). Tickets: https://t.co/k9DLA2aMzX or call 757-8090 pic.twitter.com/uWXwI4Wmd3

The event’s Facebook page provided some history into the connection between Tilting and the Irish:
“Tilting was originally founded by the French in the 17th century as a base for their transatlantic fishery, and eventually became a station for the English and Irish migratory fishery sometime after 1713.
By the 1770s, Tilting had become a predominantly Irish community, and the cultural milieu in which those early Irish thrived is seen today both in the material culture and vibrant oral traditions for which Tilting is so well known. Today, Tilting is registered as both a National Historic Site and Provincial Heritage District.”
The event is happening on Friday, March 6th starting at 7:30 p.m.. Tickets are limited.
