There’s a recommendation before St.John’s City Council to make the circular flow of traffic at Rawlins Cross permanent. Elimination of the Military Road straight stretch is currently a pilot project. Some like it but many, especially pedestrians, feel the current design is more dangerous.
The recommendations call for a permanent traffic circle configuration which would include the closed portion of Military Road, the parking lot, and the green space. The signal systems at the two crosswalks would be enhanced.
The cost of creating a permanent structure carries a $1-million estimate.
