The city of St. John’s now has a reference point by which they can start reducing their greenhouse gas emissions.
Last week the city released its Energy and Greenhouse Gas inventory.
Councilor Ian Froude, lead for Public Works and Sustainability, says the inventory estimates the energy use and emissions by the city and its residents in 2018.
Froude explains they will use this work as a reference point for the city to identify significant sources of emissions and energy use so they can find a way to reduce them.
The inventory is the first in a five step milestone framework outlined by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities and the Global Covenant of Mayors, which helps guide municipalities throughout the emissions reduction process.
