The Phoenix pay system has been causing headaches for federal government employees since 2016, and according to staff, it could be another six years before it’s sorted.
Problems include underpayments, overpayments, and in many cases lack of payments for thousands of civil servants.
Colleen Coffey is the Regional Executive Vice President Atlantic with the Public Service Alliance of Canada. She says every day there are new cases of people having issues with their pay.
Coffey says right now there are over 200,000 members who have put cases in for pay issues. She says it’s not going to get resolved until they change the system and get more people to work on it.
Coffey says there are people at the highest level of the treasury board who are still in their job and two years ago received large bonuses because the Phoenix system rolled out on time.
She says members need to remember that when they go see their MPs.
