As coronavirus concerns crop up across the country, the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre is alerting people to a recent surge in scams relating to COVID-19.
Fraudsters are reportedly scheming to profit off people’s fears as well as misinformation regarding the virus.
As an example, reports have emerged of scammers offering COVID-19 tests for sale, when only hospitals are authorized to perform related evaluations.
Others may advertise false cleaning products or decontamination services, or attempt to convince you to invest in stocks related to the disease.
Malicious email campaigns and phishing attempts have also surfaced, attempting to capitalize on fears regarding the virus.
