A pioneer of the city of Mount Pearl has passed away.
Stephen Thistle passed away on Friday at the age of 100 years old.
Thistle moved to Mount Pearl from Carbonear in the 1940s and became an integral part of the community.
He helped build a new two room school and the first United Church.
He was also a member of the school board, and the Vice President of the CN Railway Union.
Speaking to VOCM News in January at his 100th birthday celebration, Thistle said he had no regrets and if given the chance he would do it all over again.
Thistle is waking at Barrett’s Funeral Home in Mount Pearl. His funeral is tomorrow.
