Members of the province’s largest public sector unions are raising serious concerns about policies surrounding COVID-19 and its impact on the workplace.
NAPE has been fielding calls for days from members confused about the protocols surrounding self-quarantine and the availability of gloves, wipes and cleaning products.
Some workers in long-term care, who have just returned from cruises or European travel are being told by their employer to come in because they came home hours before a government-imposed deadline.
That’s not good enough says NAPE President Jerry Earle.
Earle says the union is working with government and health authorities, but serious questions remain. He says the province needs to “be in front of this” and not taking measured approaches, day-by-day.
Earle also suggests he knows what he will be doing as a parent. He believes government needs to step up its game, and questions why K-12 schools remain open.
