A Montreal-based film maker is documenting his efforts to locate his Newfoundland birth family.
Adrian Wills was born at St. Clare’s hospital in 1973 and given up for adoption.
He came to St. John’s last week and appeared on VOCM’s On Target-St. John’s to tell his story and hopefully make some headway in his search.
You can listen to Linda Swain’s full conversation with Wills below.
He knows very little other than his name at birth and some non-identifying information on his mother which indicated she gave him up to provide the best life possible.
He visited the province in September of last year and people he met suggested he take his story to VOCM.
Wills knows his surname at birth was Cousins and that his mother, who was 20 at the time, did laundry work.
Wills has documented many other stories over the years, having filmed Cirque du Soleil. He is developing his current project with the National Film Board and their St. John’s office.
He understands that he may not have any success, but wants to learn more about what it is to be a Newfoundlander.
He’s also been talking to people about what it is about Newfoundland that makes this community “so mythic and special.”
He’s asking anyone who may have information to contact him at babyboycousins@gmail.com
