The premier of Newfoundland and Labrador says those who are impacted financially by closures related to COVID-19 will be compensated.
Dwight Ball acknowledges that closing down the province’s schools and daycares will have “domino impacts” on our society.
Speaking on the VOCM Morning Show with Fred Hutton, Ball says he knows that because of such a big decision many people are going to need to find other accommodations.
He notes he has been in contact with the federal government to figure out how they can ease the burden.
The federal Government has committed $11-billion to COVID-19 relief, Ball says the challenge now is getting that money into people’s hands and they are working on doing that.
Ball Willing to Stay on as Leader as Province Copes with with Outbreak

Premier Dwight Ball, Health Minister John Haggie, Education Minister Brian Warr and Acting CMO Janice Fitzgerald at the press conference announcing that schools will be closing.
Meanwhile, Ball says that he is willing to stay on as Premier while the province struggles with the impacts of the coronavirus outbreak.
Ball announced in February that he plans to step down as Premier once a new Liberal leader is named.
But, as the COVID-19 outbreak and ensuing impacts unfold Dwight Ball admits he is willing to do “whatever it takes” to support the people of the province.
He says he is not rushing out through the door and his number one priority is the well-being of the province.
Ball says mitigating financial impacts is of major concern, and he is willing to work anyone to help the province get through this.
