Amid the fears surrounding coronavirus, there is a very different kind of potential threat in the St. Anthony area.
There have been reports of several polar bears in and around the town in the last few days.
Tracks have also been seen in the Cremaillere Road area of St. Anthony.
Conservation officers are monitoring the situation and residents are asked to keep pets indoors.
Never approach a fresh kill or carcass and keep your garbage stored properly to avoid attracting hungry bears.
Residents are reminded never to approach a polar bear under any circumstances and back quietly away if the animal does not notice you. If it does, remain calm, give the animal space and don’t run. Instead back away, and avoid direct eye contact.
