There will be a new premier come May 9th, but he will not be elected amid hoopla and celebration.
The Liberal Party is going ahead with the leadership convention May 8th and 9th, but there will be no mass gathering. Instead, the entire process will be done online. The deadline to register is April fourth. Anyone 14 and older can vote.
Party official John Samms says they struggled with the decision but, in the end, decided this was the best way to proceed.
The party says both candidates, John Abbott and Andrew Furey, will have access to the voter pool.
Abbott believes the entire convention and process should have been suspended for at least a month or two.
