An 18-year-old St. John’s man is dead and two other teens are injured following a head-on crash on the Trans Canada yesterday just west of Goobies.
RCMP received the call about a head-on collision between a small car and an SUV around 4:00 yesterday afternoon.
The victim’s 16-year-old passenger, and the 18-year-old female driver of the other vehicle were injured.
The driver of the SUV was pinned inside the vehicle and she had to be removed by fire fighters using the Jaws of Life. Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Police say speed was a factor in the collision. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is also involved in the ongoing investigation.
The crash forced a lengthy closure of the highway yesterday.
