Metro area municipalities are beginning to shut down their playgrounds.
The City of St. John’s is concerned that the virus can live on plastic and steel surfaces for up to three days as most of the structures are made of or have plastic and metal surfaces.
Effective immediately, playgrounds are closed. City parks, trails and dog parks will remain open.
Mount Pearl is closing its playgrounds and tot lots however all walking trails, St. David’s Park and the Mount Pearl Dog Park will remain open. They are not going to enforce the closures but instead rely on cooperation.
Conception Bay South is doing much the same but will leave open Nugent’s Dog Park.
Paradise has closed its playgrounds as well but town trails and open park spaces will still be accessible to the public.
