It seems some people are not getting the message about self-isolation and social distancing with some confusion in the community about what those measures mean.
All people who are entering the province are now required to self-isolate with some minor exceptions – the details of which are on the province’s COVID-19 information page.
Those who are sick or who have been in contact with someone who is sick is also required to self-isolate. The symptoms of COVID-19 can take up to two weeks to develop.
When self-isolating with symptoms it is important to avoid close contact with people with chronic conditions, compromised immune systems, older adults as well as others in your home. Stay in a separate room and use a different bathroom if possible. Keep a distance of 2 arms length away from others.
If you are in self-isolation and do not have symptoms you can go outdoors, but you must practice social distancing. Do not go to stores or other areas where people congregate. If you develop symptoms, do not go to a doctor, but contact your doctor’s office, or 811.
Social distancing requires staying home when possible, avoiding close social interactions, and limiting trips to the store. Avoid any group gatherings, do not have visitors in your home, and refrain from playdates and sleepovers for children. Safe activities while practicing social distancing include video chatting via Skype, cooking and family game night. If you are in public, keep a distance of at least two arms lengths between you and others to avoid contact with coughs or sneezes.
