The City of St. John’s says residential drop-off at Robin Hood Bay is closed to the public until further notice.
The capital city is continuing to roll out measures to curb the spread of COVID-19, which includes cutting back on busy gathering points—such as the public access to the dump.
Mayor Danny Breen says despite advice to restrict movement, the residential drop-off continues to be busy, with some 1,200 vehicles visiting the site on Tuesday alone. The city has deemed the disposal of extra garbage as non-essential at this time.
Commercial and municipal access will continue Monday to Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Recycling Pick Up on Hold
Recycling pick up in the capital city has been suspended for another two weeks, as St. John’s works to reduce risks associated with the global COVID-19 pandemic.
Pickup was originally slated to resume on March 30, following its initial suspension. However, that has been extended for another two weeks.
The City says recycling collection requires far more handling of items by city staff, which increases risks associated with the virus.
The City says it is imperative that a full crew is available every day for garbage collection in order to maintain services through the pandemic.
Residents are encouraged to store their recycling until collection resumes. However, if that isn’t possible, include your recycling with the regular garbage collection. The City states that additional bags are not permitted outside your cart.
