The provincial government is meeting today with RNC and RCMP regarding complaints received about people who are not abiding by requirements to self-isolate.
Health Minister John Haggie provided an update on the situation yesterday, indicating that nearly 360 complaints have been received to date, some of which will require further action.
Thirty-eight of those complaints have concluded and 127 were groundless.
The RNC meanwhile is reallocating cadets to review complaints received through the public reporting process set up by government. The Constabulary says it is also receiving complaints made to police, but cannot respond to those. They are instead directing people to the online form.
Those not in compliance with public health directives can be fined or even face jail time according to the Public Health Emergency enacted last week.
In the meantime, Haggie will discuss a path forward with police today.
Haggie says they have access to the courts should they need it. In terms of how an officer would approach someone who was thought to be COVID-19 positive, Haggie says they have worked out a series of guidelines in the use of PPE.
They will announce further measures in the next day.
