It’s not every day that hearing sirens in your neighbourhood is a cause for celebration. But for one little girl, they marked a very special day.
Matthew Efford says his daughter’s birthday party had to be cancelled out of precaution due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Yet, thanks to a team of first responders, the celebration kept rolling—from a distance.
Members of the Holyrood Fire Department, RCMP and Fewer’s Ambulance took some time to make sure that Norah’s birthday wasn’t forgotten.
@HolyroodFire @RCMPNL @EasternHealthNL @IAFFLocal1075 I’ve always been a proud 1st responder but for these outstanding folks who are working the front lines during this #COVID19NL to make time in their day to make my little girls birthday a special one, I don’t have the words.. pic.twitter.com/Cuaby18GUv

They decorated their vehicles with birthday wishes, and held a small parade on Efford’s street, with lights and sirens activated.
From the safety of her driveway, Norah watched with glee.
Efford, a firefighter himself, joked that while they felt awful that they couldn’t celebrate with family and friends, the act of kindness was the cake, icing, candles and fire.
Just want to give a massive shout out to @HolyroodFire , Holyrood RCMP and Fewers Ambulance for making our little girls birthday one to remember! We won’t ever forget how above and beyond you went for our little girl! pic.twitter.com/P1ttT5Qg2H
