With the number of cases of COVID-19 now surpassing 100, the Department of Health is doing what it can to address resource issues surrounding the province’s 811 information line.
Newfoundland and Labrador now has 102 cases of COVID-19. One person has been hospitalized and one person is considered recovered.
Health Minister John Haggie admits there is a long wait for the province’s health information line but he encourages anyone calling 811 not to hang up.
He is aware of one person who put the line on speakerphone and did the laundry while waiting.

In the meantime, government has put even more resources in place and, at some times during the day, the wait is down to minutes.
Haggie jokes however that he’s been told there are certain times of day when 811 experiences a surge in calls.
It’s usually immediately following the province’s daily update at 2:30, he says.
