The province has marked a significant and sad milestone in the COVID-19 outbreak.
The Department of Health has confirmed the province’s first death due to COVID-19. A 78-year-old man with underlying health issues, who was admitted to hospital from home. He is one of the 111 cases linked to exposure to the illness at Caul’s Funeral home.
Premier Dwight Ball calls this a “day of heartbreak.” He spoke with the family this morning, and they have asked for privacy.
Ball now passing along his condolences to the family.
He says when speaking to the man’s son, he told him healthcare workers went above and beyond.

Public health officials confirmed the total number of cases in the province had reached 148, with nine people in hospital and two in intensive care.
