Health Minister John Haggie says the province has not yet seen its surge period and based on current numbers it’s hard to say when that will happen. But, he says, it’s likely it will come some time in the next few weeks.
Haggie suggested that now is the time for people to consider their Easter plans and make it a virtual gathering to prevent further spread of illness.
Concerns continue to be raised surrounding people failing to exercise social distancing.
Minister Haggie says social distancing can be done well at retail locations and he credited Costco for good practices that are limiting the number of shoppers in store and keeping them apart.
However, he’s also seen pictures from places like Lewisporte and Corner Brook of large groups of people waiting outside stores and packed closely together. His message was clear: “social distancing saves lives.”

Haggie also had some advice for those using dating apps, which have soared in activity the past few weeks.
“If you use Tinder or Grindr and you swipe right, you you might get more than you bargained for,” said Haggie.
