The province’s tourism industry is feeling the full impact of measures put in place to halt the spread of COVID-19.
Chair of Hospitality NL’s Board of Directors, Steve Denty says while assistance being provided by the federal and provincial governments is encouraging, no aid package will be big enough to help every individual operator.
He’s hearing it could be up to six weeks before that funding is in the hands of operators, something that he says could be too little, too late for some businesses.
Tourism, Denty says, is not like a product you can leave on your shelf and sell later. He says revenue lost in the service industry is gone and cannot be made up later.
