Canada Post in metro is still busy clearing up the backlog and should have all provincial and federal cheques out to the boxes over the next couple of days.
The sorting plant was shut down for a week because of a positive test of a worker. The plant reopened nine days ago but with minimal staffing. They are now almost back to full capacity.
The situation is tough on recipients. Mary told VOCM Open Line with Paddy Daly that she still doesn’t have her pension or old age for April.
She wonders if there is a bag of cheques somewhere at Canada Post of which the workers are unaware.
Doug Kennedy, president of the union local, does not expect any snags in getting the GST cheques out tomorrow.
He says the volumes he is now seeing appear to be normal.
