The union which represents home care workers is at a loss to understand why they’re still being expected to go into people’s homes with little or no personal protective equipment.
NAPE says, in some cases, workers have had to purchase their own PPE, a situation which he sees as ridiculous.
President Jerry Earle says many other frontline workers are also being expected to work with inadequate protection against the viral spread.
Some provinces, including British Columbia, have put a stop to situations where care workers visit more than one institution or household.
He says in some cases workers visit one family, then move to another household and then on to another community.
Earle says he is hearing mixed messages from government.
Since the Department of Health and Community Services issued the directive they have seen at least three different memos contradicting the initial information.
