Residents at a Pleasantville apartment building have been displaced after a pipe burst early Sunday morning.
St. John’s Regional Fire Department responded early this morning and arrived at Pleasantville Apartments on Charter Ave to find over a metre of water in the basement. Water continued to pour into the basement of the building, with crews unable to stop the deluge.
Crews with the City of St. John’s had to be summoned to turn off water at the water main, however water had nearly completely filled the basement, up to the first-floor landing. City crews opened a fire hydrant to relieve pressure on the water system affecting the building.
Newfoundland Power was also called to disconnect power to the building.
All residents of the fourteen occupied apartments are currently displaced as a result of the flood.
