The CEO of Food First NL says it’s time for municipalities to consider their regulations when it comes to backyard farming.
A growing number of people are turning to backyard farming both as a pastime and as a means to ensure their own food security.
Josh Smee says some municipalities are better than others, and credits the City of St. John’s for being progressive when it comes to farming and animal husbandry.
That’s due in part to a larger population to put pressure on lawmakers, he says, something that might be harder in a smaller community. As a result, the capital city is in a more progressive place, and it hasn’t seemed to cause any particular disruption according to Smee.
