The Girl Guides of Canada are thankful for a number of new partnerships after door-to-door cookie sales were nixed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
With physical distancing measures in place, cookies were not able to be distributed to NL members, and guides were unable to go door-to-door to sell the classic cookies.
However, a number of major chains stepped up to help fill the void. Girl Guides of Canada cookies are now being sold in Canadian Tire stores, Colemans, Sobeys and affiliates—such as Foodland.
Provincial Commissioner for Girl Guides of Canada Newfoundland and Labrador, Brandi O’Keefe says despite challenges faced by members, this was good news for all.
She says units will still see the benefits from sales, and remarks that the community support has been amazing, especially considering these unprecedented times.
O’Keefe explains that many local stores—including Foodland—were excited to be able to step up and help. Community-owned stores have been a support of Girl Guide units, and O’Keefe says local units usually return the favour.
