A local teacher is teaming up with a group from British Columbia to support healthcare workers and local restaurants.

Becky Winsor learned about the Love for Local campaign on social media from two Canadian National Volleyball players in Kelowna, BC. She reached out to find out more about bringing the campaign to Newfoundland and Labrador, to raise $3,000.

Winsor says the goal is to thank healthcare professionals who continue to prepare and fight against COVID-19 by raising funds to buy them gift cards for local restaurants.

Winsor says even the restaurants that have moved to takeout and pickup orders are not making the money that they are used to. So, she says, being able to support healthcare workers while also boosting local businesses is appreciated by the owners.

The Healthcare Foundation also joined the group to ensure safe distribution of the gift cards.
