Prime Minister Trudeau has announced an investment of nearly $130-million to help northern communities fight COVID-19.
This funding builds on both the $500-million provided to provinces and territories, and $305-million provided to Indigenous Communities.
The funding announced on Tuesday will support to address immediate health, economic and transportation needs in the north.
The biggest portion of the $130-million will go towards social services and response to the virus. The federal government will transfer $72.6-million of those funds to the governments in the Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut to cover those areas.
Trudeau says the communities, especially remote areas, are in a unique situation. They rely on air services to bring supplies and goods.
He says this is only the beginning.
