More changes are being made to the CERB so that even more Canadians will qualify for the $2,000 monthly payment.
Prime Minister Trudeau says people who earn $1,000 a month or less will now qualify. Workers whose EI benefits ran out after January 1 can apply, and people who are not recalled for seasonal work can apply. People in the arts community now also stand to benefit from the CERB.
Trudeau says measures for students and businesses needing help with commercial rent will be announced soon.
The PM began his address by declaring that we have to do better when it comes to nursing homes. Several homes have had dozens of residents die during the crisis. He will be discussing that issue with the Premiers—including Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Dwight Ball—in their weekly meeting tomorrow night.
Trudeau says a New Brunswick company is going to ramp up production of testing equipment to meet the needs of all provinces when it comes to testing for the virus.
