VOCM News has been honoured with two awards from the Radio Television Digital News Association.
The awards are normally given out at an event in Halifax but for obvious reasons that is not happening.
Under the Breaking News category, VOCM News takes home the Charlie Edwards Award for the Mount Scio fire last summer, where flames were licking Pippy Park, resulting in the evacuation of many horses from Rainbow Riders.
VOCM’s Ben Murphy was one of the first reporters on scene, bringing live updates as parts of the park had to be temporarily closed.
Workers at other nearby facilities, including the Elaine Dobbin Centre for Autism, chose to leave the area.
Foley says Mount Scio Road will remain closed until all of their units have cleared the scene, which could be a while.
Rainbow Riders has been evacuated as a precaution and all of the horses have been looked after.

Another gold award was won under the Sports Feature Reporting category, for the coverage of the Kelly Cup clincher at Mile One last spring.
The Newfoundland Growlers put away the Toledo Walleye in six games.
It was the first professional sports championship for a team from this province.
The east region winners will now be up against those from the rest of the country to determine the national winners.
