The number of people who have recovered from COVID-19 in the province continues to grow.
176 people are reported to have recovered from the virus, out of a total of 256 cases. Three people have died.
Four new cases of the virus have been confirmed since yesterday’s update—all in the Eastern Health region.
238 cases are in the Eastern Health region, eight in Central Health, four in Western Health and six in the Labrador-Grenfell region. As of today, 5,585 people have been tested.
Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Janice Fitzgerald is reluctant to say whether the funeral home cluster was our big surge in cases, saying it’s far too early to make that determination.
Fitzgerald says it’s only through the collective efforts of all Newfoundlanders and Labradorians in continued self-isolation and social distancing that the early signs remain positive.
She knows that there are difficulties, but the rules surrounding social distancing and self-isolation have allowed some to slow down, reflect and reconnect with people within our own bubble. She hopes people can find that silver lining.
The provincial government will resume live broadcasts of its COVID-19 updates on Monday at 2 p.m. NT, 1:30 in most of Labrador. However, it will continue to provide updates by release through the weekend.
Premier Dwight Ball acknowledges that these are stressful times, but reminds people to do their best to be considerate to others.
The premier outlined one case involving a man with underlying health concerns who admitted he’s not going out to shop for essentials anymore, but not because he’s afraid of contracting the illness.
It was because the man wanted to avoid confrontational and judgemental attitudes he’s encountered since public health measures were enacted. Instead, the man indicated he would shop during the seniors hour.
