It is not time to put the shovels away yet.
A “large and impressive system” is approaching the province today.
Meteorologist with the Gander Weather Office Rob Carroll says snow will continue for most of the day for areas of Eastern and Central NL.
The changeover to rain for the Avalon area is forecasted for mid-afternoon and a little later for the Clarenville and Bonavista Peninsula.
He says some areas could see 15 to 20 cm before the changeover. When it changes to rain, around 30 mm is expected for Eastern NL.
The temperatures will be fairly mild to melt the snowfall in the next couple of days, says Carroll, but with all the rain that is coming, people should still get out and create trenches to clear out their drains.
The weather system will affect the Northern Peninsula and Labrador a little different. They will not see much rain but will get about 15 to 25 cm of snow.
If the system continues to come in as forecasted, a part of Central might miss the rain and see 30 plus cm of snow.
