A mother and daughter spent their Saturday helping those who drive tractor-trailers across the island.
Christa McGrath and her mother, Audrey Ellis, set up tables of food by the overpass in Glenwood. They wanted to provide truck drivers with a hot meal of soup, sandwiches, and sweet treats for their trip.
McGrath says her father worked in road construction for many years and told her about the value of someone providing him a cold drink on a hot summer’s day. She decided to help truck drivers during the pandemic in a similar way.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, McGrath noticed many drivers parked outside businesses like Tim Hortons waiting to get food. She says it’s sad that they have no place to go.
McGrath says she was happy to help, and that those who received meals were grateful for the gesture.
