The School Lunch Association had to move fast to get food from schools and out to the public after the buildings closed, but it partnered with several organizations to accomplish the objective.
As a result, $300,000 worth of goods from 27 schools has found its way to the St. John’s Farmers market where it is now available on an application basis for community-serving organizations.
Household Movers and Shippers and Akita Equipment pitched in to help move the food, and the RNC and many others also stepped up.
John Finn, the executive director of the association, says they serve about 6,000 lunches a day at schools from Clarenville to St. John’s metro.
