How do you plan for the coming sports season when you don’t know what’s happening next?
That’s the dilemma facing School Sports NL in the face of the current COVID-19 pandemic. Officials indicate it could be months before we return to some sense of normalcy and that things won’t go back to the way they once were until a vaccine is finally found.
Karen Richard is the Executive Director of School Sports NL. She says the way forward really isn’t clear, but they have the time to start looking at programming and doing things differently.
Richard cites the mailmatch archery program which they’ve run for a year or two now, where you compete within your own school and then compare the results with other schools.
Meanwhile, Doug Halliday of SportNL says they’re continuing their hugely popular online coaching and professional development program—the only free coaching program of its kind in the country.
The full April schedule filled up in about 35 minutes and the May schedule is now out.
