From near and far, Canadians are reaching out with messages of love and support to residents of Nova Scotia in a time of immense tragedy.
While they were unable to gather to mourn, a group of locals spent the last week collecting recorded messages of tribute from many well-known Nova Scotians—from politicians and spiritual leaders to athletes and musicians.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Governor General Julie Payette also contributed their voices, to share a message of strength, and standing together through this difficult time.
The messages were compiled into a ‘virtual vigil,’ titled Nova Scotia Remembers, which aired at 7 p.m. AST. Though kept apart by the pandemic, the video aims to let those grieving know that their communities stand with them, and not dwell on the darkness of the past week.
The hour-and-a-half broadcast brings together a collection of songs, speeches, and messages of love and of grief.
