The salmon fishery is still set to open in the province on June 1, despite the uncertainty for seasons across the country.
The season will open unless there are further directions from health authorities to delay.
That’s according to the Don Ivany of the Atlantic Salmon Federation who says the situation has been concerning for outfitters in the province and those relying on business for employment.
Tags and licences have been received by authorities and they will go to vendors soon, says Ivany.
He says any businesses that remain open will sell licences as normal and will be able to provide tags and licenses.
Chief of the Gander Bay Indian Band Council Calvin Francis says the water levels in the Gander River area are high and there are signs of kelt heading to sea, which is a good sign for the season.
France has closed its season and Scotland has also put the season on hold.
